Job Overview
The Catering Captain is a part time yet critical role within House of Yes. They report to the House of Yes Private Events Team and General Manager, and are responsible for the execution of private events during the Run of Show (ROS). The Catering Captain has a devotional commitment to customer service and the guest experience that is expressed with the utmost patience, sincerity, respect and professionalism. This role is best suited for someone who is highly experienced in catering and private events and excels at leading and supervising server and floor teams. The Catering Captain position has the opportunity to grow into a larger role with a higher level of responsibility and the possibility of full time hours.
Requirements
21+
Must be legally able to work in the USA
5+ years experience in the Hospitality/Catering Industry
2+ years leadership-level experience in the Hospitality/Catering Industry
Must be able to comfortably lift 50 pounds and climb stairs
Must be able to stand for extended periods of time
Comfortable in group settings and leading catering teams with confidence
Strong attention to detail and highly accurate
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
Extremely strong level of customer service and professional attitude
Food Handler’s Certificate
TIPS Certificate
Must be available on nights and weekends
Comfortable in nightlife, queer, and alternative spaces as well as large crowds
Responsibilities (Include But Not Limited To)
Act as Catering Lead for House of Yes Private Events
Prior to the event start time, communicate menu and ROS to servers and other team stakeholders; leading Pre-Shift Meetings along with the Private Events Team
Supervise all servers during events, ensuring the menu and ROS is executed exactly to plan
Problem solve quickly and efficiently; immediately communicating any changes to the team
Actively spots issues or inefficiencies and work to quickly resolve them, never abandoning the issue until it is completely resolved
Manage various serving styles, including but not limited to: family style, buffet, stationary hors devours, passed hors devours, coursed meals, and others
Creating and implementing an organizational protocol for all catering items (dry goods, plate, cutlery, etc); ensuring protocol is followed through on a consistent, longterm basis
Maintaining par levels for all items
Creating and managing side work lists for servers
Communicating onsite needs with the chef during events
Attend Private Event Team meetings (either in person or remote) as required
Uphold service standards and bar organization; support team training and accountability
Supervise Dept of Health compliance during events and provide ongoing supervision of cleanliness
Creating a positive, rewarding work environment for all House of Yes catering staff while acting as an exemplary employee and leader
Other duties as assigned by House of Yes Management

Hours and Expectations
Position type: W2; part time
Pay rate: $25.00-$30.00 per hour based on experience
Work location: onsite at House of Yes in Brooklyn, NYC
Meeting participation: Attendance required as needed (remote vs in-person as needed)
Night time and weekend availability required, particularly during peak seasons such as Pride, Halloween, December, and NYE
