Caligula’s Final Week Reigning
It’s Caligula’s last week ruling the House of Yes. Soon we’ll have to kiss the endless parade of trannies, slaves and disco music goodbye and embrace a much more sinister and twisted world then Caligula’s empire. Rehearsals for $piderman start Monday, and the search for the ultimate villains is in full swing.
::::::::Wednesday thru Friday:::::::::
THE SAINT AT LARGE® in association with HOUSE OF YES and LADY CIRCUS present
CALIGULA MAXIMUS
Welcome to the last night of the notorious emperor’s reign. Sensing the encroachment of monotheistic religions, the debaucherous Caligula holds another one of his utterly excessive celebrations in which he attempts to save the world by ushering in a new religion with himself as its principle prophet and god. Caligula is the ringmaster, the star, and the proprietor of the show and by entering his world you inevitably become his subject and his slave.
The show is saturated with sex and completely uncalled for violence yet at the same time feels like an ancient Roman discotheque. Wear shoes you can dance in, wear a costume or come naked. It’s that kind of a party.
Starring Jamin Ruhren (aka ACID BETTY), Kayvon Zand, Stormy Leather, Brittany Campbell and the Lady Circus aerialists Anya Sapozhnikova, Airin Dalton and Matthew Griffin
Book & lyrics by Alfred Preisser and Randy Weiner (DONKEY SHOW), musical arrangements by Brent Lord directed by Jen Bender, choreographed by Richard Kennedy.
Shows:
Wednesday April 13: 8pm doors, 9pm show.
Thursday April 14: 8pm doors, 9pm show.
Friday, April 15: Doors at 7:30, show at 8:30 AND doors at 10pm, show at 11pm
*(This show is standing room only, and with the looks of ticket sales so far, we recommend you don’t wait until closing night to experience it.)

Please shoot an email with the subject line reading $PIDERMAN with a head and body shot, and experience to anya@ladycircus.com
We will also be needing hands with set construction and costume/prop/puppet fabrication in the coming weeks. Please reach out if you want to huff some glue with the HoY crew.
——-
$piderman is many things, but one thing that it is NOT is a spoof.
$piderman is:
- A House of Yes in-house production that will feature the best of the best of what we brew here.
- A personal challenge to ourselves to create the most technologically complex production we’ve embarked on thus far.
- An elaborate “thank you” to Julie Taymor who is often criticized, but lately rarely appreciated for her utter balls-out mentality regarding theater and the creative process in general.
- A response to undeniably the most groundbreaking (although whether it’s good or not is debatable) thing that’s happening to theater and entertainment in New York City.
-All proceeds will go to updating House of Yes Technical capabilities.
Caligula Maximus
The Saint At Large, gaydom’s longest running underground party and producer of the BLACK PARTY, joins forces with Lady Circus at their home base the House of Yes Theater, to present:
CALIGULA MAXIMUS
Set on the last night of the notorious emperor’s life, the debaucherous Caligula takes on a beautific Jesus Christ in an X-rated wrestling match for the hearts and hard-ons of ancient Rome. Originally staged to critical acclaim at La Mama, the sold-out play has been overhauled as an all-singing, all-dancing spectacle in which audiences are encouraged to take off their togas for a dip in the Cosmic Pool.
Featuring Kayvon Zand, starring Jamin Ruhren (aka ACID BETTY) with Stormy Leather, Brittany Campbell and the Lady Circus aerialists Anya Sapozhnikova, Airin Dalton and Matt Griffin book & lyrics by Alfred Preisser and Randy Weiner (DONKEY SHOW), musical arrangements by Brent Lord directed by Jen Bender, choreographed by Richard Kennedy.

Nudes, Dudes and Christmas Magic
So yea, we had a naked party and it was awesome. (we’d show you photos, but we can’t)
We also had Nutria Palooza hosted by Righteous Fur which was also awesome! (http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=46936&id=100000102625254&l=04288320ec)
Basically, House of Yes has learned a few lessons in the past few weeks. We learned that if you host a naked party as an inside joke, people will still show up and you still have to get naked so that you don’t look like an asshole. We also learned that Naked Dance Parties are seriously fun! We also learned that its really easy to offend awesome people, and that sometimes people don’t get your jokes.
That being said, we’re going to keep up with the momentum to bring you an offensive and festive Christmas Spectacular, that is guaranteed to offend every member of your family and congregation. We call it “Xmas Around the World” and for that, we apologize in advance.

The Horror Show
Sometimes, a show is so gorgeously grotesque and intense that it just won’t fit inside the walls of House of Yes. Sometimes, we have to pay off the local mafia and precinct to make art happen. Sometimes there’s a real possibility of things going seriously wrong.
This week, we invite you down the desolate streets of our decayed neighborhood to a space untouched by condos and hipsters. This is raw, this is real, and this is horrifying. See the Horror Show, and rest in peace.
::::::::THE HORROR SHOW:::::::
October 21st, 22nd, 23rd
Thursday, Friday & Saturday
The Horror Show is a true story told through juxtaposing reckless aerial acrobatics, classical ballet, an out of control marching band and twisted magic. This show ranges from pornographic to visually stunning. It is also 98% historically accurate.
The Horror Show walks the fine line between an ambitious theater production, and building a theater from scratch. Originally previewed at the House of Yes to sold out audiences in May, it will now be running in its full glory and completely balls out in an abandoned turn of the century brewery with a history of its own.
Written and produced by Anya Sapozhnikova of the Lady Circus and the House of Yes. The all-star cast includes Jordann Baker, Brett Lord, Kathryne van Assche, Lori Barber, Ashley Perez and Alex West. The great deceiver Albert Cadabra is the master of ceremonies, as Stumblebum Brass Band contribute the musical score and the chaos.

FINALE WEEKEND!
THE CIRCUS OF CIRCUS: A Tragic Tale of Entertainment.
Presenting…Tap dancing ladies, cross dressing ballerinas, musical production numbers, aerial carousels, matching costumes.. and real death! House of Yes has seriously outdone itself this time with Kae Burke’s first ever production and written show- Circus of Circus, a big-time, big-top musical of splendor and satire, adapted from George Orwell’s classic novella “Animal Farm”. This darkly humorous tale of a corrupt circus troupe overthrowing their ringmaster to create a dazzling show of their own, but through live jazz, witty script and spectacular circus numbers, the entertainers soon learn that “some performers are more equal than others”. Circus of Circus will have you entertained and terrified, amazed and afraid. Come for the complimentary Goldsmith’s Whiskey and stay for spectacle!
Written and Produced by Kae Burke of House of Yes and Lady Circus, The all-star cast includes seasoned performers of the circus and stage including Tegan Flanders, Ashley Monroe of Silky Sirens Burlesque, master acrobat Ryan Murray Shinji, fire performer Evgenia Radilova, aerial-contortionist Natasha Ortiz, and Eric Schmalenberger of Rachel Klein Productions as well as David Slone, Shannon Turner, Valton Jackson, Rachael Ma, Angela Harriell and the Love Show Dancers!

The Horror Show is a disturbing tale of a love triangle taking place in early 1900’s New Orleans. Juxtaposing reckless aerial acrobatics, classical ballet, an out of control marching band and twisted magic, the show ranges from pornographic to visually stunning. It is also 98% historically accurate.
There is a fine line between an ambitious theater production, and building a theater from scratch. The Horror Show, which previewed to sold out audiences at the House of Yes in May, will now be running in an abandoned turn of the century brewery with a history of its own.
Thursday, October 21st; Friday, October 22nd; Saturday, October 23rd;
Thursday, October 28th; Friday, October 29th.
260 Meserole St, Bushwick, Brooklyn. L to Montrose Ave.
8:00pm doors, show will start at 9:00. (approximately 90 minutes)
$25-$35. for tickets visit http://sapozhnikova.com/horror/
The only way to see the show for free is to pitch in. We’re looking for builders/strong durable people for set up on the 18th-21st, ushers, gate keepers, stage hands to help make the show run smoothly. email anya@ladycircus.com with dates you’re available and what you’d like to do.

Impending Doom
Friends! Comrades! We have not forgotten about you. We’ve just had our hands tied…Literally!
We have been kidnapped for the past few weeks by the Russian Mafia, and were held hostage in a basement somewhere near Brighton Beach.
Don’t worry, we’re okay. Luckily, Matt (of Matt’s Mom Infamy) paid our ransom (Thanks Matt!)
Anyway, while we were being gagged and interrogated, we had a lot of time to think about our upcoming shows, Circus of Circus and Horror Show! As we nearly starved to death, we had feverish visions of dazzling circus spectaculars and horrifying death-defying theatrics that will make you gasp and scream and beg for more. Now that we are free, we’re making these shows happen and the entire month of October is filled with insanely entertaining performance just for you.
Thank you Russian Mafia!
In the meantime, enjoy Rubulad this weekend at 3rd Ward!

The Horror Show.
There is a fine line between an ambitious theater production, and then there is suicide.
Building a pop-up theater in a half abandoned 1900′s brewery, refusing to use safety lines, having the most deranged brass band – Stumble Bum Brass Band write your whole score, and casting a bunch of ballerinas who have a love affair with bourbon are all senseless risks to take when putting on a show. This is going to be a dark and terrifying undertaking for all of those involved, but even if the worst comes to worst, at least we can whole heartedly promise The Horror Show will be highly entertaining.

What is Entertainment?
Kae and Anya were having a heated discussion about what qualifies as entertainment. After hours of debate, a fist fight ensued rendering both of them bloody, naked and even more confused. To settle it, they consulted Wikipedia and found this:
Entertainment consists of any activity which provides a diversion or permits people to amuse themselves in their leisure time. Entertainment is generally passive, such as watching opera or a movie. There are many forms of entertainment for example: cinema, theatre, sports, games and social dance. Puppets, clowns, pantomimes and cartoons tend to appeal to children, though adults may also find them enjoyable.
After conducting the above research, they agreed to disagree with Wikipedia, coming to the common ground that entertainment is clearly all about booze, titties, raunch, sexual confusion, all night throwdown dancing and turkish wrestling.
Clearly, they were right, just read this lovely New York Times article!

TheDanger, 3rd Ward, Mister Saturday Night, Blk Market Membership and The Lady Circus are combining forces to bring you an all night exploration of riotous performance, sculpture lit by flames and all-night dj’s nestled within three cavernous warehouses in the heart of Brooklyn.

There are moments in this city that seem almost impossible – when the the dark sky is gorgeous, the music is intoxicating and New York City devolves into that hedonistic adventure that we all live for. On this night there will be fire, there will be fame and there will be a moment when the night turns exquisitely out-of-control.

MERMAID LAGOON
Mermaid Lagoon: A Benefit for The Oceanic Preservation Society & The Gulf Coast
Once upon a time, in a blue lagoon not so far from New York City, there lived a village full of beautiful Mermaids. Famous for their dangerous beauty and bewitching songs, these mermaids were known the world over for their charms and talents used for pulling sailors to their doom beneath the waves. Legend tells that for one night in the deep of summer their lagoon is safe for mortal travelers. They ask only that you make an offering to The Sea, and dance with them…
Kai Altair will perform songs from her solo EP release: “Star of The Sea,” spellbinding performances by burlesque beauty Veronica Varlow, Ali Luminescent (Coney Island’s Best Mermaid 2009), haunting theatrical dance by Desert Sin, and sea-themed aerial, fire, and glass walking performance by Cassandra Rosebeetle, plus a bio-luminescent lagoon full of bellydancing mermaids and handmade tropical drinks.
Later, DJ Joey Nova will be spinning a special cocktail of new wave and electro-bellydance all night long.

There have been whispers for weeks that several of this city’s most riotous creators are building something brash for the end of July. From 7pm through 7am on July 31st, dozens of performers are collaborating to build that hedonistic adventure New York City thrives on. There will be liquor. There will be fame. There will be a moment when the night goes exquisitely out-of-control…
You are invited to the return of Fire: http://www.LifeofFire.com/

Join us and discover our new look, our new feel, and our new wet spots. Were growing up, growing tits, and getting sexy…. at least metaphorically.

Stop Bitching.
There’s been a whole lot of complaining about the heat lately, we’ll here’s something for you to chew on:
A Detailed Description of Death from Hypothermia:
You start with a body temperature of 98.6 F. At 97 degrees, the muscles along your neck and shoulders tighten in a pre-shivering muscle tone. At 95, you are trembling violently. Anything below 95 renders the enzymes in your brain inefficient. At 93, amnesia nibbles at your consciousness. Apathy at 91 degrees. Stupor at 90. At 88, you stop shivering. Your blood is thickening like crankcase oil in a cold engine, oxygen consumption, has fallen by more than 25%. Your kidneys work overtime to process the fluid overload that occurred when the blood vessels in your extremities constricted. You feel a powerful urge to urinate. At 86, your heart is becoming arrhythmic. The lack of oxygen and the slowing metabolism of your brain, trigger hallucinations. At 85, blood vessels near the body’s surface suddenly dilate and produce a sensation of extreme heat against the skin leading to paradoxical undressing. In the final stages, individuals with severe hypothermia are often found half naked in small, enclosed spaces.
Stop whining and come on over!
