Let’s Go CROWD SURFING! Michele Bachman!
We made a very bold decision for The Ambitious Show this Friday…we decided to choreograph Crowd Surfing into a dance number or two. This wouldn’t be problem except for the fact that the whole idea of Crowd Surfing is that you have a CROWD!!! Therefore, its more important than EVER for people to be in the audience. Not just a few people…but A LOT of people. If we do have a crowd, its going to be an amazing moment for everyone in the room. If we don’t have a crowd, at least of the Lady Circus dancers is going to be leaving with a broken leg… or face.
So we kindly ask you, our adoring audience, to come support us in the most literal way imaginable Friday…and help us Crowd Surf. Bring your friends, your lovers, your landlord. We need all the help we can get.
Ps. Michele Bachmann will be MCing the Political Variety Show this Thursday. Don’t believe us? Come and see for yourself. She may also crowd surf.

Sky Box POLITICAL Aerial and Variety Show
More often than not, live “entertainment,” by which we mean everything from l.e.s. Performance Art (capital A) to the most over-produced Broadway spectacle (just capital), is regarded as a mere distraction from the woes of the “real” world. At best, entertainment is sometimes perceived as a metaphor for the state of current affairs, but, for the most part, ART is considered to be just for fun, while POLITICS has pretenses to being for realz!
Yet politics and performance have way more in common than the disciples of each would likely be comfortable admitting. For example, both politicians and performers command authority and power, both have to twist reality, not only to keep their audiences engaged, but also to convert them to their point of view, both can be bought, both have to wear costumes to work, and last, but definitely not least, they both have parties!!!
After spending the past three and a half years unabashedly indulging in everything aesthetic, entertainment-driven and silly, the Sky Box at the House of Yes would like to invite you to come and get serious as we discuss the bureaucratic, civic, constitutional, economical and legislative landscapes of the world today. Unavoidably, there will still be plenty of acrobatics and sexiness, just like the Republican primaries!
MC’d by Michele Bachmann (not Kae Burke)

The End Times Cabaret presents “THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED.”
House of Yes is taking the show on the road, all the way to The Bell House…in GOWANUS Brooklyn! Follow us across the borough, and we will take you on an entertaining journey into the good ol times…the 1960′s!
The Day the Music Died will entertain your socks off, with a ferocious live brass band, stunning aerial acrobatics and hilarious dance numbers, showcasing the social/political/popular culture changes that occurred between 1958-1961. This was a transition time of Housewives to liberated women, doo wop to freak out jazz, politeness to protest, innocence to innovation. It was the birth of birth control, the beginning of “cool”, the end of post-war america.
Inspired by the plane crash that killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper on what became known as “The Day the Music Died,” this special evening features performances by songwriter and arranger Phil Andrews of Apocalypse Five & Dime, the awe-inspiring aerial and burlesque performers of The Lady Circus such as Anya Sapozhnikova, Kenneth Stephen Neil, Brian Joseph Ferree, Rebecca Heinegg, Evgenia Radilova, Kathryne Van Assche, Ashley Morgan Monroe, Juanita Cardenas, Eric Schmalenberger, transcendent vocalist XAVIER, dynamic dance troupe “The Good to Go Girls,” and many more. Size Queens! Expanding by 33.3%
Everyone knows that Kae and Anya are size queens. We can’t deny it. We do want to set the record straight about a little secret, and also let you know… we’re getting BIGGER.
:::::::::House of Yes is EXPANDING by 33.3%::::::::
There have been wild rumors going around that there’s a third floor at the House of Yes. After trying to deny these rumors for 3 years, we decided to come clean…even with our (gasp) LANDLORD. The good news is that our landlord is extremely happy with us as tenants, which makes us feel extremely optimistic about sticking around in this building for a long long time.
Here is the challenging news: We now have to transition our third floor into art studios/offices/healing rooms/video suites/you name it. This was always the long term plan, and we’re happy to be making our private space available to working professionals. Some of the spaces are available as early as December 1st, but most are available January 1st. We are completely and utterly open to what these spaces will be repurposed as. Although most know us as a space for crazy shows and crazier parties, during the day we are a full-on production facility that works on mainstream projects involving established brands and companies running the full gamut of everything that fits into the production and entertainment industry. The third floor is completely secure and away from the general public.
The rooms are roughly 250 sq feet and will come with a to-be-negotiated package deal of use of our facility. The ballpark of rent will be $500-$800 range, based on how much access you will be needing to our resources: sound recording studio, aerial studio, main space, sewing/costume studio, Materials for the Arts access, and MORE!
Ideally, we are looking for:
-Professional and ambitious people who are expanding an already existing business.
-Businesses/projects/groups that will coexist with what the House of Yes does, and also benefit from it by having their headquarters here.
It is incredible how fast projects move along here, and how rapidly we’ve been growing. We are very excited about the prospect of joining forces with more passionate and driven artists and entrepreneurs.
Please help us spread the word far and wide. The future is bright.
Please contact anya@ladycircus.com if this is exactly what you’ve always dreamed of, subject line reading “33.3%”
Sincerely, Anya, Kae and the House of Yes Family.

::::::::::SAVE THE WORLD! SAVE RUBULAD! ::::::::::
The creative counter culture paradise known as Rubulad is seeking a new home. Rubulad has existed for MANY YEARS and is the grandmother of House of Yes. Some would say that without a Rubulad, House of Yes would have never come to be. It is a melting pot of magic where connections are made, ideas become reality and magic is real. There is no place like it on earth, and the world is a better place because of it.
At this point, the circumstances are dire: either Rubulad moves its mecca, or it disappears forever. We have until December 9th to help them raise $35,000. At that amount, every penny counts. We can do this.
Please take a moment and donate. You will not regret it.

::::::::::OCCUPY BROADWAY!!!:::::::::
EVENT: Occupy Broadway (the theatre/shopping district) with performance and spectacle for 24 hours straight.
WHEN: December 2nd starting at 6pm until December 3rd at 6pm
WHAT: We will introduce tourists and New Yorkers uptown going to Broadway shows or shopping themselves into debt in Times Square to the idea of occupation as CREATIVE resistance with non-stop free
performances. We will set up in a privately owned public space near Times Square. This movement is spreading around the world and around New York City. In a time when downtown theaters are rapidly losing their spaces, being turned into high-end fashion stores, it is a symbolic attempt to regain the space of theatre as an accessible, popular art form, bringing it back to where it all started – in a public space, for the common citizen.
The organizers are looking for groups in all styles and genres, to present a segment (2 minutes to 2 hours long) that has a theme of the 99% movement, possibly holiday related, festive, radical caroling, large puppets, marching bands, dance, etc.

The High End Aerial and Variety Show
“High End” can mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people when it comes to performance, and in this months variety show we will explore this very open-ended concept. High-End can mean wearing lingerie from Victoria’s Secret on 5th Avenue vs. Rainbow on Grand St. High-End can mean that the performers actually rehearse the act before putting it in front of an audience. High End can mean something that you usually charge a little extra for like full penetration. Or it can mean “real raw art” vs another cabaret act to “Feeling Good” by Nina Simone. It can mean just standing there dripping in diamonds, or just laying there in a tub of hot chocolate!
This month, The Sky Box Aerial Studio presents acts that almost no client has the balls or the funds to pay for (especially with Occupy Wall St. gaining so much momentum!) We’re excited to provide that special, philanthropic fundraiser format – where everything and anything is possible and 100% worth it.

WINNING!
HOUSE OF YES WINS!
This past week marked a momentous occasion for House of Yes and the world. Kae Burke (House of Yes Janitor, Co-Director) was acknowledged by the prestigious Innovative Theatre Awards, receiving the award for “Most Innovative Design” for her aerial and rigging design in her Circus of Circus production. Basically it’s like winning an Emmy for Off Off Broadway. Or Grammy or whatever.
This means that House of Yes is finally recognized as a THEATRE! And not only just a theatre… an AERIAL THEATRE! And not only just an Aerial Theatre… but and INNOVATIVE one! But hey, you already knew that. We knew that too. We don’t need someone else telling us what we are. But we do like awards. BECAUSE WE’RE FUCKING WINNERS!!!

We’re Not Union, We’re Renegade!!!
Broadway is that pure-bred dog that is mentally disabled from being inbred and having its hair dyed too many times. It lives its life on a very short, very expensive leash. It is unionized and neutered. Off-Off-Broadway is a dog that has rabies and is flying through the air on fire wearing a sequined Marchesa gown.
Is there anything more Off-Off-Broadway then clowns that refuse to die? People from Philadelphia? An aerial show where half the aerialists learned how to fly 2 weeks ago? A contest where instead of doing things according to union rule books, you’re asked to put creativity first and safety last?

Phantasmagoria Circus Side Show
- A Dark Journey Into The Realm of The Unknown -
The House of Yes circus family is growing out of control and beyond the city limits of this fine town. We are proud to welcome some new friends from lands far away onto our stage. Come witness the show which ignited the spirit of Philadelphia; the riot that put the body of the city inside it’s own imagination, and lifted the hearts of many with a twist of experimentation and a sprinkle of black magic. Phantasmagoria, a rare sideshow treat, is bursting at the seams with traditional daredevil stunts — but where others aim to shock, Phantasmagoria will envelop and enrapture you with one contorted tale. Ringleader Alejandro Dubois leads you through a stellar exhibition of fire fiends, clowns, burlesque and belly dancers, sideshow vaudevillians and aerial acrobats all while examining the dangers of beauty.
Starring Nati Amos, Ms. Coney Island, Alejandro Dubois, Alfonso Cruz, Reverend MacKenzie Moltov, and Mariana Mystique.
Directed and choreographed by Rev. MacKenzie Moltov, Alejandro DeBois, Mariana Mystique

We’re keeping it cool not only in temperature, but also in that “cool” way. Therefore, you can come see amazing things without dying of heat exhaustion. LADY CIRCUS and BENJAMIN ICKIES present:
THIS AMBITIOUS SHOW
Over the past 4 years Lady Circus, has incessantly challenged itself and its audiences. We’ve put ourselves in danger, broken the law and a few hearts for the sake of your entertainment. Now we set out to create something pristine, beautiful and most importantly honest.
You arrive to New York City, your eyes are bright and your heart is young. You step outside of the train staton and are immediately crushed by the buildings, suffocated by the noise and swept up by the crowds. Panic swells up in your chest – you are utterly alone in a city of 8 million. You have no choice, you breathe it all in.
You trade comfort for chaos. You take unimaginable risks in the name of adventure. What was insane back home is now the norm. You let yourself fall irreversibly in love. You lock lips with the city and it tastes like a familiar poison. You commit to your addiction, letting it destroy everything you thought you were. One day you wake up and realize that you’re home. You have paid your dues and you finally belong in the city built for the fearless, the beautiful and the ambitious.
Set to the epic, sweeping tones of the 20-member This Ambitious Orchestra, Lady Circus flies through the air and dances across your table, enveloped in a story that is all too familiar to those who fought to be here.

Kathryn Van Assche, Lori Barber, Airin Dalton, Lisa Dispigno, Benjamin Ickies, Vigdis Hentze Olsen, Ashley Perez, John Presnell, Anya Sapozhnikova and Jeff Young

With the old timey/klezmer/second line/ants-in-your-pants antics of The Vermont Joy Parade, the raw and virtuosic gypsy punk style of The Homeless People, the lush medieval “doom folk” of Ruche, the barrel house saloon crooning of the always amazing Mickey Western Band, the crazed abandon of Gumskirt, and the irrepressible New Orleans gumbo of Up, Up, We Go!
Surprises by the Lady Circus and pals, acting highly unprofessional.
9pm doors, 10 dollars.
Extremely. Urgent.

Thank You Julie Taymor
In our hearts we strongly believe that if failure is not an option then you’re playing it too safe. The impact she has made on theater and entertainment once again, has been astonishing to witness and has left us speechless. This is an elaborate anthem and a thank you letter to her, for being an inspiration.

Caligula’s Final Week Reigning
It’s Caligula’s last week ruling the House of Yes. Soon we’ll have to kiss the endless parade of trannies, slaves and disco music goodbye and embrace a much more sinister and twisted world then Caligula’s empire. Rehearsals for $piderman start Monday, and the search for the ultimate villains is in full swing.
::::::::Wednesday thru Friday:::::::::
THE SAINT AT LARGE® in association with HOUSE OF YES and LADY CIRCUS present
CALIGULA MAXIMUS
Welcome to the last night of the notorious emperor’s reign. Sensing the encroachment of monotheistic religions, the debaucherous Caligula holds another one of his utterly excessive celebrations in which he attempts to save the world by ushering in a new religion with himself as its principle prophet and god. Caligula is the ringmaster, the star, and the proprietor of the show and by entering his world you inevitably become his subject and his slave.
The show is saturated with sex and completely uncalled for violence yet at the same time feels like an ancient Roman discotheque. Wear shoes you can dance in, wear a costume or come naked. It’s that kind of a party.
Starring Jamin Ruhren (aka ACID BETTY), Kayvon Zand, Stormy Leather, Brittany Campbell and the Lady Circus aerialists Anya Sapozhnikova, Airin Dalton and Matthew Griffin
Book & lyrics by Alfred Preisser and Randy Weiner (DONKEY SHOW), musical arrangements by Brent Lord directed by Jen Bender, choreographed by Richard Kennedy.
