What is Entertainment?
Kae and Anya were having a heated discussion about what qualifies as entertainment. After hours of debate, a fist fight ensued rendering both of them bloody, naked and even more confused. To settle it, they consulted Wikipedia and found this:
Entertainment consists of any activity which provides a diversion or permits people to amuse themselves in their leisure time. Entertainment is generally passive, such as watching opera or a movie. There are many forms of entertainment for example: cinema, theatre, sports, games and social dance. Puppets, clowns, pantomimes and cartoons tend to appeal to children, though adults may also find them enjoyable.
After conducting the above research, they agreed to disagree with Wikipedia, coming to the common ground that entertainment is clearly all about booze, titties, raunch, sexual confusion, all night throwdown dancing and turkish wrestling.
Clearly, they were right, just read this lovely New York Times article!

ANTIGONE
A Genderqueered Act of Resistance
She is clearly the fierce daughter of a fierce father;
She does not know how to bend with the wind.
Theater Transgression remixes gender, power, interactive video, wearable sculpture, gutter glamour and queer grandeur in an intergalactic explosion of color in post-apocalyptic Thebes. A superstar virtual chorus joins a cast of eight transgender and genderqueer actors to retell this tale of war, authoritarianism, defiance, and love.

KARNIVAL OF KURIOSITIES
In the age of the glamorous cirque-style spectacle, anarchy and rebellion are often forgotten. The word “carnival” itself is associated with scantily-clad showgirls, while its roots in the “carnal” are neglected. This Friday, July 30th, we bring you the meat and the mayhem that circus is made of. This disaster of a show will feature things that aren’t even possible. (Unfortunately we had to comply with House of Yes’ rules, and throw in a few scantily clad showgirls anyways just to keep ‘em happy.)
Starring:
*Albert Cadabra – The Great Deceiver who eats razor blades, hammers spikes into his face, and electrocutes himself with 20,000 volts of electricity for fun.
*Betty Bloomerz who uses the snake like contortion of her mysterious innards to pull a massive 27″ sword blade deep into her petite 5′4″ body amongst other things.
*Anya Sapozhnikova, everyone’s favorite whiskey guzzling aerialist slut, (you might want to bring a date to see this stuff.)
*Vermont Joy Parade is a six piece brass band hailing from Burlington providing the dance party into the wee hours playing a fervent and eclectic blend of old-time, blues, dixieland, Cajun, jug, and klezmer.

LIFE OF FIRE: 7pm through 7am
TheDanger, 3rd Ward, Mister Saturday Night, Blk Market Membership and The Lady Circus are combining forces to bring you an all night exploration of riotous performance, sculpture lit by flames and all-night dj’s nestled within three cavernous warehouses in the heart of Brooklyn.
The experience begins in a 117 year old former brewery, continues two blocks away in three floors of a former furniture factory and ends with the sunrise in a former garment factory with two gorgeous floors and a wide open courtyard.
There are moments in this city that seem almost impossible – when the the dark sky is gorgeous, the music is intoxicating and New York City devolves into that hedonistic adventure that we all live for. On this night there will be fire, there will be fame and there will be a moment when the night turns exquisitely out-of-control.
The line up is pretty impressive, and very long. Visit http://www.lifeoffire.com/ for info.

Tattoo Your Ass with YES!
This week we are inviting you to get a tattoo on your ass with a flaming rock-n-roll pirate-mermaid hybrid on a trapeze. Why? Because this weekend at the House of Yes we give you: tattoos, fire, rock n roll, mermaids and trapeze. Seriously. And then, when people ask you “whats the meaning of your tattoo?” you can just say “the House of Yes Newsletter told me to get this”. Or you can just punch them in the face.
Have a good day!

MERMAID LAGOON
Mermaid Lagoon: A Benefit for The Oceanic Preservation Society & The Gulf Coast
Once upon a time, in a blue lagoon not so far from New York City, there lived a village full of beautiful Mermaids. Famous for their dangerous beauty and bewitching songs, these mermaids were known the world over for their charms and talents used for pulling sailors to their doom beneath the waves. Legend tells that for one night in the deep of summer their lagoon is safe for mortal travelers. They ask only that you make an offering to The Sea, and dance with them…
Kai Altair will perform songs from her solo EP release: “Star of The Sea,” spellbinding performances by burlesque beauty Veronica Varlow, Ali Luminescent (Coney Island’s Best Mermaid 2009), haunting theatrical dance by Desert Sin, and sea-themed aerial, fire, and glass walking performance by Cassandra Rosebeetle, plus a bio-luminescent lagoon full of bellydancing mermaids and handmade tropical drinks.
Later, DJ Joey Nova will be spinning a special cocktail of new wave and electro-bellydance all night long.

Stop Bitching.
There’s been a whole lot of complaining about the heat lately, we’ll here’s something for you to chew on:
A Detailed Description of Death from Hypothermia:
You start with a body temperature of 98.6 F. At 97 degrees, the muscles along your neck and shoulders tighten in a pre-shivering muscle tone. At 95, you are trembling violently. Anything below 95 renders the enzymes in your brain inefficient. At 93, amnesia nibbles at your consciousness. Apathy at 91 degrees. Stupor at 90. At 88, you stop shivering. Your blood is thickening like crankcase oil in a cold engine, oxygen consumption, has fallen by more than 25%. Your kidneys work overtime to process the fluid overload that occurred when the blood vessels in your extremities constricted. You feel a powerful urge to urinate. At 86, your heart is becoming arrhythmic. The lack of oxygen and the slowing metabolism of your brain, trigger hallucinations. At 85, blood vessels near the body’s surface suddenly dilate and produce a sensation of extreme heat against the skin leading to paradoxical undressing. In the final stages, individuals with severe hypothermia are often found half naked in small, enclosed spaces.
Stop whining and come on over!
