@ House of Yes
This class will give you the basics of “pantomime blanche” or white-faced illusion-based mime. Students will learn exercises involving fixed-point, isolation, resistance and the other building blocks of pantomime and physical acting in general. These skills can help a performer more effectively communicate his/her ideas and emotions with an audience through clear and precise physical articulation. They are useful for any performer from an improviser to an aerialist.

House of Yes Helps the Yes Men!
(and You can Too!)
Our friends the Yes Men (http://www.theyesmen.org/) need your help NOW to pull off some large-scale shenanigans in September. It’ll be fun and stupid, and it’ll probably create a splash in the media. They are professionals at playing pranks on corporations.
Be a part of something big!
Right now in Make Fun we are constructing 20 large-scale, ridiculous costumes to be worn at events, actions and appearances.
If you have sewing or building skills, please help this super-secret-project come to life! We are working from 12pm-11pm every day except Saturday/Sunday.
Email Kaeburke@gmail.com if you would like to sew and change the world! Let us know when you can come by.
We also need people who can wear the costumes, document, edit or just help in anyway they possibly can. Want to be involved? contact Larken at larken@artevolve.org.
We will be working from Make Fun at the House of Yes

Night School: Circustentialism: An Exploration of Circus Choreography
This Night School class is essentially an excercise in play, a chance
to work through our creative process organically through exploring
concepts of space, shape, story, time, emotion, and movement. Our
professor, Seanna Sharpe, will emphasize finding presence in
transitions as well as in “moves”, creating sequences that flow. She
will also teach methods of developing stylization (opportunities for
embellishment, movement, and creative interpretation within form).
Students will learn intermediate movements and then be given an
opportunity to create their own piece, finding a sequence that
highlights their own personal artistic voice.
Like any good education, the goal if this class is not to teach the
students what to think but rather how to think. Instead of simply
stringing together moves or teaching sequences of ideas, it is an
opportunity to play, explore, and find your own personal experience of
expression as a choreographer, a dancer, and an artist.

A Lovely Evening with Cuddle Magic
Cuddle Magic is a large ensemble from West Philly/Brooklyn that
performs lush, whimsical songs with wide-ranging instrumentation
including strings, percussion, vibraphone, trumpet, clarinet,
keyboards, guitars, and sweet vocal harmonies. Their unique stage
set-up includes half a dozen small lamps and a 3-foot plastic penguin
set amidst the players and their many instruments. The ensemble, which
sometimes swells to 12 or more, plays deftly crafted arrangements of
their complex and varied set of original music. They are as friendly
and inclusive as their name might suggest — after forming as a
quintet over a year ago, they have gradually come to incorporate more
and more of their musical friends into the band.
Some pieces will be accompanied by choreographers/dancers Emily
Vetsch and Fayth Caruso
Artist Laura Steele will be using multiple sources including live
feeds, and remixed video compositions creating a fertile visual
landscape.

SATURDAY the 15th………from dusk untill dawn……
………ON THE EDGE OF WATER AND DARKNESS…
….A NIGHT OF VOLATILITY AWAITS YOU…….
House of Yes recently aquired some very special neghbors. Our
neighbors are pirates. They have a gigantic 3 tier boat, enough to fit
650 people. These strapping fellows walk around shirtless digging
ditches and pulling heavy ropes, and they really know how to have a
good time. We like them A LOT. But these hard working hunks of muscle
need some cash to keep afloat.
Lady Circus and House of Yes will be helping them raise some booty
this Saturday. And you can help too by showing up and attempting to
party as hard as they do. Good luck!
Here’s the very intense and epic promo they wrote for their party, we
edited it to make it a little less dense to read. Also excuse all the
caps, they are just very excited, as they should be because this is
going to be the best thing ever.
The infamous and cavernous BUSHWICK BOAT, hidden in the boggy canals
of Brooklyn will play host to a wild array of visceral forces.
COMPELLED to inspire, ignite and emblazon your five senses… BEATS,
FIRE, ART, DANCE, AND SPIRITS will combine for an unforgettable
one-time event, culminating with the rise of the sun. We offer
ourselves to you, in SACRIFICE and in the spirit of FUNDRAISING for
the ESTABLISHMENT of what has become one of the most evocative and
extraordinary party experiences in our city. Please join us as we
descend into the depths.

come dressed in all that is primitive, volatile, and godlike. Colors
and costumes emulating the sun, fire and power (red, yellow, black,
white, orange) are expected – otherwise one will be provided you. BE
PREPARED to undergo THE COSTUME GAUNTLET – painted, written upon,
adorned, and bejeweled without mercy.

Night School: Movement Improv Workshop
This week at Night School, we will explore new ways to move your body through space using various exercises designed to encourage participants to get out of their mind and into their bodies.
We will be warming up with blindfolded solo work, finding the place in us that is beyond mind and logical thinking. We will move into partner work, exploring ways to stay connected with ourselves while authentically engaging with another human. To close out we will experiment with a massive group improvisation culminating into a free form unpredictable dance explosion.
Be brave, be creative, dare to look ridiculous. A fun and supportive place to go insane for a couple hours.
Facilitated by Lopi LaRoe who is a bona fide genius of mental experimentation.
